Back in June there was an update to the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 SO-01b in Japan. It fixed a LOT of pressing issues making it a much better product. Today, a new update is available, although not the MASSIVE update expected this month or the next.
Likely this update will be for NTT DoCoMo i-mode compatibility to bridge the gap between existing i-mode users and the new device (including things like their △△@docomo.ne.jp email addresses)
My current information:
☆Firmware Version: 1.6
☆Baseband: 1.0.24
☆Kernel Version: 2.6.29-rel semc-android@SEMC #2
☆Build Number: R1EA025
Let's try the update.
I've made sure it's got a full battery charge and good wifi signal to start with.
It says it is only 9,893,973 bytes (9.44 megabytes)

☆New Baseband: 1.0.36
☆New Build Number: R1EA0029
★Sony Ericsson's Backup and Restore App has been added.
★Another App, 定型文 (Fixed Phrase), has been added but has no English variant. This is some sort of phrase dictionary. I think can be used to input stock phrases for quick easy emailing etc. It plugs into the Japanese Keyboard, it would seem.
★POBox (The Japanese input method) has been updated. The numbers keyboard now has giant number buttons and only a few punctuation and shift accesses the rest (as you may know, Japanese doesn't use much extended punctation). Effectively, this keyboard is less useful when typing in English now; the Mod keyboard from XDA developers forums is much better for English.
It also includes a new setting that allows you to choose whether or not to add a space after choosing a predictive text word when in "english" mode (not english, but roman characters mode)

★PC SEUS Update was made availabe from August 30th while the OTA (over the wire using packet communication) Update was available from August 31st. This coincides with mailing xperia users with news about SP-Mode to allow use of i-mode services (in particular, people want their pre-existing i-mode mail)
★This upgrade is mandatory in order to use SP-Mode.
By the way, I think it is awesome that Sony-Ericsson and NTT DoCoMo are working closely together in order to bridge the big gap between smartphones built for the world market and the special attributes of the Japanese domestic market. Softbank and Apple could learn something here.
★This update also adds a new APN for SP-Mode
★This version adds a delete function for Album Art in Mediascape but STILL doesn't let me change the colour scheme like the summer update in other markets did.
Should be noted... on mine, the sp mode does not show up in my APN list. Perhaps if I add the SP-Mode App, the update allows that app to add the correct APN.
Update:I just checked the documentation I received in the mail and it gives detailed instructions on how to upgrade and setup SP-Mode in great detail with screenshots, what to type, and what to press.
